New Trending Features

Ease of use and customer-requested features led to improved Trending functionality.

The trend chart object now allows an optional Pen Group selection.  This allows an operator to choose from pre-defined trend pen groups, to define client-side unique pen groups, or to customize the properties of the pen.  A pen group contains related pens within the process.

Good naming conventions for tags can help operators to find tags for trending.  Operators can choose pens based on column name or by tag name.  Branched tag names simplify the search for a particular value.

Trending also understands compressed logging.  Logging with a simple deadband value defined can remove the need to log static values to the database, saving log space as well as the improving the time to display data on the trend.  The compression algorithm ensures that the shape of the curve represents the real-world changes.
